Dr. John Mwaura

Pastoral Associate for Refugee Ministry

Dr. John Mwaura, one of our ruling elders, is a native of Kenya. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in general ministries from Lancaster Bible College in 1989, a Master of Science degree in counseling psychology from Millersville University in 1992, and a Doctor of Education degree from Penn State University in 2008.

In the past, Dr. Mwaura served as the Training Program Director in the Department of Psychology at Penn State University. He also served as the Director of the Graduate School at Bloomfield College, NJ. As a consultant and family therapist, he has presented at state and national conferences on various clinical topics in mental health. Dr. Mwaura is the founder of the Valley Springs Dialysis Clinic in Nakuru, Kenya, where he currently helps to serve patients with renal failure, many of whom are economically disadvantaged.

Dr. Mwaura has been a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church for 34 years. In 2017 he joined the Refugee Ministry serving the Congolese community in the role of pastoral support. John has been married to Rebecca for 42 years. They are blessed with 4 children and 3 grandchildren.
