Rev. Steven Light is a pastor, and leader, and a shepherd whose heart for pastoral ministry has been used by God as a vessel to show his love, mercy, and grace.
Light grew up in a home where Jesus Christ was known as Lord and Savior and where his parents taught him the gospel and displayed its power and grace in their own lives.
In his childhood, so many foundations were put in place which manifested genuine fruit later in his life. He thanks the Lord for the ministry of the church to him in those formative years; an influential youth minister, various volunteers, the ongoing input of his parents, and other avenues through which the Lord brought his word to bear on him to shape, convict, and instruct him.
J. Steven Light, Jr. is no stranger to Westminster Presbyterian Church. He was born March 24, 1982, in Hanover, Pennsylvania to Dr. John S. and Patty Light. He came to Westminster as a teenager when his father was called as WPC’s Associate Pastor in 1995. The younger Light holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Grove City College (2004) and an MDiv from Westminster Theological Seminary (2009).
After college, Steven Light entered the mechanical engineering field, but felt that God was quickly calling him to ministry. After earning his MDiv degree from Westminster Theological Seminary (WTS), Light served as the pastoral intern for nearly 2 years at Holy Trinity Presbyterian Church in Tampa, FL where he would later serve as its church planting pastor at Sojourner Presbyterian Church in Temple Terrace, FL for 9 years (2011–2020), and then as Holy Trinity’s Associate Pastor from 2021–2022. While on staff at Holy Trinity as its Associate Pastor, God used hardships and spiritual abuse to strengthen Light’s walk with the Lord, bolster his shepherding heart, and provide unique opportunities for reconciliation and forgiveness that have become a pivotal point in his testimony.
Steve’s primary responsibilities include:
- Liaison to Membership Care Committee
- Shepherding/Congregational Care
- Home Fellowship Ministry
- Liaison to Deacons
- Assist with Visitation
