Women's Ministry Counselor

Dr. Joan McConnell began part-time work as Director of Women’s Ministry in 2007. In 2016 she became full time and works with many volunteers to cultivate, mentor, and guide ministry functions that meet the needs of our women, stressing biblical instruction and spiritual support. She is an experienced counselor with a heart for the deep struggles that women face in various roles and phases of life, and she invests much of her time as an adjunct to Dr. Light’s counseling ministry. A native of Washington D.C., Joan married Raymond Stratton in 1970 and was widowed in May, 2009. In 2018 she married Thomas McConnell. She has a son Nathan, a daughter Jessica Dorman, and nine grandchildren. She is a graduate of Houghton College, and she holds an MA in biblical studies from Dallas Theological Seminary as well as a Doctor of Ministry from Liberty Theological Seminary. She taught for 29 years on the high school and college levels and is fluent in Spanish. Joan offers Romans 11:36 for God’s praise, “For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever.”
